Not sure what it's like on newer vehicles, but I had the same problem with my '98 Sonoma last month. In the Sonoma, there's a black switch that contacts the door. When the door closes, it pushes the switch in, which tells the Retained Accessory Power system (this is what keeps your radio and stuff working after the car's shut off) that the door is closed. When the door opens, it lets the switch back out and therefore shuts off the radio. What happened in my truck was the switch was simply sticking. I would just have to poke it when I got out of the truck and the radio would switch off. After a day or so of doing this it must have loosened up whatever was making the switch stick as I haven't had any problems since.

Because the computer should shut every thing off after a few minutes. I ended up pulling 2 fuses to get things shut off.
